Mineralogists study rocks, gems and other minerals, including their chemical and crystalline structures. Most mineralogists study minerals of economic value, such as copper, aluminum, iron, ore, gypsum and clays and also determine land-value based on mineral presence. These scientists decide how to efficiently retrieve and process minerals. Their work includes monitoring sample collection, preparation, and analysis and often use chemical, heat, and other tests on to identify mineral properties. Source
