Sedimentary petrologists focus on describing and classifying sedimentary rocks, interpreting processes relating to transportation and deposition of sedimentary materials, the prevailing environment at the time the sediments were deposited, and the alteration of the sediments after deposition. Sedimentary petrologists work with instruments and methods such as petrographic microscope for description and classification. Some use wet-suit diving or manned submersibles to observe current processes on coral reefs, ocean floor and mid-oceanic ridges. Source
